Behind a dominant pitching performance, the Carrollton Trojans maintained their spot atop the Region 5-AAAA standings with a 4-0 victory over the visiting LaGrange Grangers on Friday.
The Grangers were hoping to bounce back from Thursday’s tough loss to the rival Troup Tigers, but they didn’t have any luck against two Carrollton pitchers.
Tucker Reynolds got the start and pitched six shutout innings, and Brandon Pedigo pitched a perfect seventh inning to finish it.
While the Trojans moved to 6-1 in the region, the Grangers fell to 4-3 in the region, leaving them in a tie for fourth place with Troup at the halfway point of the region schedule.
The top four teams in the region will advance to the state playoffs.
LaGrange managed just four singles, and no one reached third base.
Carrollton got one run in the first inning, another run in the third, and two runs in the fifth inning to cap the scoring.
Logan Hood pitched all six innings for LaGrange, and he gave up three earned runs on seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
LaGrange will begin the second half of its region schedule on Tuesday at home against Shaw.
