Jackson Oliver began the season on a hot streak, and he hasn’t slowed down since.
Oliver, a sophomore from Troup High, has enjoyed an exceptional season for the Columbus State baseball team.
Oliver, who has played in all 43 of the team’s games, is hitting .417, and he has four home runs and 51 RBIs.
Oliver has also scored 38 runs, and he has 18 stolen bases.
Heading into today’s doubleheader against the University of South Carolina-Aiken, Oliver has had three straight games with three hits, and he has 19 hits in his past eight games.
Oliver also has a streak of six games with at least one RBI.
Oliver is leading the team in batting average, RBIs, hits, doubles (15), slugging percentage (.594), and he is second in stolen bases.
Oliver has helped the Cougars put together a 32-11 overall record, and they’re 19-5 in the Peachbelt Conference.
Oliver, after helping lead Troup to the state semifinals during his senior season, hit .312 in his freshman year at Columbus State.
Columbus State has seven regular-season games remaining before the conference tournament.
ANDREW COLLEGE: Former Troup Tiger Josh Garland has been swinging a hot bat all season.
Garland, a catcher, has played in 33 games, and he has a .324 batting average with one home run and 16 RBIs.
At one point this season, Garland had 12 hits in 13 at-bats, and that included a game against Gordon College where he had a home run and four RBIs.
GEORGIA: Drew Moody, a freshman from LaGrange High, has appeared in five games as a relief pitcher for the Bulldogs.
Moody, who made the team as a walk-on, didn’t allow a run in four of his outings.
In five innings, Moody has given up eight hits and one run, and he has five strikeouts.
LAGRANGE COLLEGE: Chris Laye has enjoyed an exceptional first season with the Panthers.
Laye, a junior from Callaway High, is tied with Kyle Nerbonne for the team lead with a .314 batting average.
Laye leads the team with 19 RBIs, eight doubles, and two home runs.
Laye is also tops on the team in slugging percentage (.471) and on-base percentage (.412).
Jim Reed, a junior from Troup High, is hitting .233, and he has nine RBIs, and he leads the team with eight stolen bases.
Jarred Adams, a freshman from Troup High, has been one of the stalwarts of the pitching staff.
Adams is 3-4, and he leads the team in wins, and his 3.04 ERA is the best among the starters.
MARSHALL: Eric Escobedo, a junior outfielder from Troup High, is hitting just .153 for the Thundering Herd, but he has still been a major contributor.
Escobedo is second on the team with 16 RBIs.
Another former Troup Tiger, Josh King, appeared in six games for Marshall, but his season has been cut short by an injury.
King started six games for Marshall, and he is 2-2 with an exceptional 2.60 earned run average.
SOUTHERN UNION: Price Peters, a freshman from LaGrange High, is hitting .288 for Southern Union.
Peters has one home run, and he has driven in 10 runs.
GORDON COLLEGE: Bryce Todd, an infielder from LaGrange High, is hitting .316 for Gordon College, and he has driven in 16 runs.
Todd, who has 13 stolen bases, had a nine-game hitting streak at one point this season.
Kane Keith, a freshman pitcher from Callaway High, has started 11 games for Gordon.
Keith is 3-5 with a 3.79 ERA.
Keith had given up two or fewer runs in seven straight starts before struggling a bit in a loss to Middle Georgia last week.
CVCC: Cody Sheffield, a pitcher from Troup High, has appeared in three games this season for Chattahoochee Valley Community College.
Sheffield has thrown five innings, and he has given up just one run while striking out seven.
On April 9, Sheffield pitched a season-high three innings and didn’t allow a run or a hit to get the win against Central Alabama Community College.
POINT UNIVERSITY: Drew Elliston, a freshman from Callaway High, got the start for Point in a game against Southern Tech on Wednesday.
It was a bit of a struggle for Elliston, who gave up 10 hits and four earned runs.
Brandon Butts, a freshman from Troup High, is playing shortstop for Point.
In a win over Virginia International last weekend, Butts reached on a pair of walks, and he also scored a run in an earlier game in the series.
