LaGrange’s Sarah Bearden is exiting the high-school stage in style.
Bearden, a senior on the LaGrange track team, ran away with a pair of top four finishes at the state meet in Albany.
Bearden finished third in the 3,200-meter run, and she was fourth in the 1,600-meter run.
At least year’s state meet, Bearden finished fourth in both events.
A pair of local runners also competed in the 400-meter run at the state meet.
Troup’s Keya Sands finished 14th, and LaGrange’s Denae Hill was 16th.
Bearden’s first race was the 3,200 on Thursday, and she finished just one second out of second place.
Bearden completed the eight laps around the track in a time of 11:35, and that was just behind the second-place finisher, Kendall Nelson of Marist.
Another Marist runner, Morgan Ilse, won the event with a time of 10:56.
In the 1,600 on Friday, Bearden’s time of 5:25 was good enough for a fourth-place finish.
Once again it was Ilse racing to the top spot, and her time of 5:03 was more than 20 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
The boys’ state track meet will be held this week in Jefferson, and athletes from LaGrange and Callaway will be competing.
