Caleb Buchanan is getting his shot.

Buchanan, who recently wrapped up his senior season on the LaGrange High baseball team, has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Truett-McConnell in Cleveland.

Buchanan visited the four-year school and felt comfortable there.

“It’s small. I can get to know everybody, and the coaches are really nice up there,” Buchanan said. “They made me feel welcome.”

Buchanan is grateful to get the chance to play college baseball, especially considering how his junior season went.

Early in the season, Buchanan injured his knee, and he ended up having season-ending surgery.

Fortunately for Buchanan, he had one year of eligibility remaining, and he returned for his senior season and helped the Grangers make it to the state playoffs and then beat Northwest Whitfield in the first round before losing in the second round.

“It’s a real good opportunity to keep playing,” Buchanan said. “I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to do it after hurting my knee last year. I’ll be able to compete up there.”

Truett-McConnell is a Baptist school, and Buchanan figures he’ll feel at home there since his father, Andy Buchanan, is the pastor at Franklin Road Baptist Church.

“It’s a good environment to be in, especially since I grew up being a preacher’s kid,” Buchanan said. “I’m used to it. I’m looking forward to it.”
