The LaGrange Academy Lady Warriors will leap into a new season today.
After missing out on the state playoffs a year ago, the LaGrange Academy softball team will try to begin a new season on a positive note when it hosts Heritage School at 5 p.m. today.
The Lady Warriors have been one of the state’s most successful programs under head coach Charles Parker, and they have won numerous state championships.
The 2013 season ended with the Lady Warriors on the outside looking in when the state tournament began, though.
To make it back to the state playoffs, the Lady Warriors will need to finish among the top four teams in GISA Region 4-AA.
Most of the players from last year’s team are back, and some newcomers should provide a boost.
Also today, the LaGrange High softball team will take the field against another opponent for the first time when it hosts Newnan in a preseason game at 5 p.m.
LaGrange will play its first regular-season game on Friday in the Callaway Classic at Shuford Fields.
LaGrange will play five total games on Friday and Saturday.
LaGrange is coming off a 20-10 season, but it is having to replace a handful of seniors, including pitcher Emily Anderson.
Troup, meanwhile, will also open its season on Friday in the Callaway Classic.
Troup played a preseason game against Callaway last week.
The Lady Tigers are having to replace a talented group of seniors who helped the team win 13 games in 2013.
