ATLANTA - The Callaway Cavaliers were pushed to the limit by B.E.S.T. Academy a year ago before hanging on for a 28-18 victory at Callaway Stadium.
On Friday, those two teams squared off again, this time at Grady Stadum in Atlanta.
Once again it was a hard-fought, competitive game, and this time it was B.E.S.T. Academy getting the upper-hand.
B.E.S.T. scored a touchdown with less than 30 seconds remaining in the game to secure the 14-7 victory.
Callaway took a 7-0 lead in the third quarter, but B.E.S.T. rallied to get the big win.
Callaway, which is the second-ranked team in Class AAA, opened the season with a 20-14 overtime victory over LaGrange last week.
For the second straight week, Callaway found itself involved in a scoreless game at the half.
A week ago, LaGrange struck first and took a 14-0 lead before Callaway rallied.
Against B.E.S.T, Callaway got the game’s first points on a touchdown run by Eddie Culpepper, and Cameron Spinks’ extra point made it a 7-0 game.
After rallying to tie it, B.E.S.T. got the ball one final time with minutes left in the game.
B.E.S.T. drove to the 1-yard line before scoring on a third-down play.
The Cavaliers got the ball one final time, but they didn’t have enough time to do anything with it.
Callaway will look to get back on track when it hosts Heard County on Friday.
