It’s that time again.

The Dixie Youth Baseball all-star season gets under way this weekend, with a handful of local teams in action.

The 9-10-year-old District 1 tournament will be held in Thomaston beginning on Saturday, and there will be three teams from Troup County participating.

The 11-12-year-old district tournament will be held at the Harris Baseball Complex starting on Saturday, and there will be one Troup County team competing.

The top teams from the district tournaments will advance to the state tournament.

In Thomaston, Troup County National, Troup County American, and Hogansville will be three of the five teams fighting to earn one of the two invitations to the state tournament.

Troup National and Hogansville will both play on Saturday, while Troup American has a bye until Monday.

The double-elimination tournament gets under way at 10 a.m. with Hogansville playing Manchester, and Troup National and Thomaston will meet at noon.

After an off day on Sunday, the tournament resumes Monday, and Troup American will play its first game at 6 p.m. against the winner of the Hogansville and Manchester game.

“There will be two teams in the loss column by the time we play,” Troup American coach Terry Booton said. “We got the luck of the draw.”

The Troup National team includes a number of players who were a part of the squad that finished second in the district tournament last year to advance to state.

“We’ve got seven of the kids back that played last year,” coach Charles Mosley said. “And a lot of them played travel ball. They’ve been playing together since they were 4 and 5-years-old. This is a good group.”

The tournament is scheduled to last until Friday, although it could end on Thursday if one team makes it through unbeaten.

There are only three teams participating in the 11-12-year-old tournament at the Harris Complex.

The Troup County National team has a bye into the state tournament, which will also be held at the Harris Complex on July 12.

The second Troup County team will compete in the district tournament.

Thomaston and Manchester play on Saturday, and the winner of that game will play Troup County on Sunday.

It is a double-elimination format.
