Manchester proved to be the class of the field.
Manchester rolled to a 3-0 record to claim the top spot in the Dixie Youth Baseball 11-12-year-old District 1 tournament at the Harris Baseball Complex.
Two of Manchester’s victories came against a Troup County team that finished second to earn a spot in the state tournament in July.
Manchester beat Troup County 6-0 on Sunday, and it won the rematch 8-2 on Tuesday.
Troup beat Thomaston 9-0 on Monday for its lone tournament win.
“We wanted to win obviously, but we learned what our strengths and weaknesses are,” Troup County coach Andrew Caraway said. “Now we’ve got the state tournament to get ready for.”
In Sunday’s game, Troup County was unable to solve Manchester pitcher Tyler Steverson, who pitched a six-inning shutout with 12 strikeouts.
On Tuesday, Brandon Redd got the start for Manchester and he did a solid job, and Steverson came into the game late to finish things off.
“It was kind of similar to Sunday,” Caraway said. “They just kind of methodically beat us.”
Troup County got a two-run hit from Colton Webb in the third inning, but Manchester pulled away from there to claim the win.
Next up for Troup County will be the state tournament, which will get under way on July 12 at the Harris Baseball Complex.
Troup National, which didn’t play in the district tournament, will also play in the state tournament.
