On Oct. 20, during the Hummingbird Festival, Blue Train Books in downtown Hogansville will host author Jim Dale to celebrate the Oct. 10 release of his book, “Neon Through the Pines.”

In the 1990s and early 2000s, Dale wrote a column for the Hogansville Herald and the West Georgia Beacon about his life growing up in Hogansville and his later adult life in Atlanta. These articles make up the book “Neon Through the Pines.” Dale will be selling and autographing copies of the book at Blue Train Books at 200 E. Main St.

“The object of this book is to demonstrate the many noble qualities of this unique region and to show how the modern South affects one raised in a small Georgia town when life was slower and people had time for each other,” a press release about the book states.

Dale is a graduate of Hogansville High School and West Georgia College and he did graduate work at the State University of West Georgia. He now lives in Waleska.

“The book is a collection of newspaper articles over many years for several newspapers,” the press release said. “Most of the stories are not fabricated, but are a real part of Jim’s life told from the perspective of a child as he grew up in a small, close-knit community, and who eventually faced adult life in the suburbs of an impersonal and unfamiliar Atlanta which was growing out of control.”
