Bessie Parmer Darden, 101, of LaGrange died Friday, October 5, 2012 at LaGrange Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Darden was born March 3, 1911 in Lineville, AL, daughter of the late James Simon Parmer and Mary Doney Overton Parmer. She was married Charlie Will Darden in 1940. The two of them had one daughter, Mary, who died shortly after birth. She worked and Dunson Mill and later she sat with patients at the hospital and private duty in their homes. She then retired in 1975. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by 12 brothers and sisters, including her twin sister, Dessie Parmer Anderson.

Although she had no living children of her own, she helped raise many of her nieces and nephews. She is survived by a number of nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Alice Darden Cavender who was her caregiver.

Graveside services will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Loyd Presbyterian Church. The family will greet friends after the service.
