Betheria Porter Shears passed away January 1, 2013 in Atlanta, Georgia.

She was born May 30, 1925 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Clinton Porter and Lucille Burton Porter. She was married to the late Henry Shears, Jr. and birthed one daughter, Bessie Lee Shears, both preceded her in death.

She joined Union Springs Baptist Church, Troup County, Georgia; and later joined Betherian Berean Seven Day Adventist Church.

She was educated in the public schools of Fulton and Troup Counties. She worked over 40 years, lovingly nurturing and caring for several families in Georgia and Florida, including the Story and Smiley Families.

Survivors include two grandsons, Robert Brown, Atlanta, GA; and Ronald (Joe) Brown, Chattanooga, TN; one aunt, Josephine Davidson and family, Chattanooga, TN; other relatives, Marie and Alphonzia Simpson, Jr. and family, LaGrange, GA; Gwendolyn and Greg Hicks, Lithonia, GA; Pauline Cofield, Philadelphia, PA; Sheldon and LaGail Bliss, Desmond and Cheshia Bilss, Anna Bliss, and Darlene Bliss Smith, Marian C. Pitts, all of Atlanta, GA; Bliss and Gill families, Pennyant and Rochester, NY; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bliss, Fayettville, GA; and a dear friend, Johnny “Cookie” Dixon, LaGrange, GA; Douglas Sweeper, College Park, GA.

The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Mountain Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Alfonia Simpson, Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
