The Callaway Cavaliers haven’t slowed down in Region 5-AA play.

The Cavaliers won their 15th straight region contest after defeating Lamar County 44-0 in Barnesville Friday night, and moved closer to repeating as region champions.

The match-up determined which team would hold the lead in the region standings, as the Trojans came into the game 3-0 in region play.

A rocking crowd in the new Trojans Stadium didn’t have much to cheer about from the get-go.

Behind an electric night from quarterback Quan Bray, the Cavaliers (5-2, 5-0 Region 5-AA) improved its impressive winning streak to five games.

“It’s a big win,” said Callaway head coach Pete Wiggins. “It’s just another step in our goals for this season.”

Bray got the scoring started when he re-turned the opening kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown.

Three minutes later, Bray scored again on a 16-yard scamper to put Callaway ahead 13-0 with 8:45 left in the first quarter.

Bray got in the end zone again on a 5-yard run less than two minutes later, and the rout was on.

“Quan did an excellent job for us tonight,” Wiggins said. “The offensive line really established the line of scrimmage and played great.”

Josh Ham, who made four-of-five PATs on the night, nailed a 32-yard field goal at the start of the second quarter, and running back Marquis Terrell added a 20-yard run shortly thereafter.

Terrell scored again on a 58-yard run with 7:58 left in the first half, and the score at the break was 37-0 Cavaliers.

Hunter Harrison scored on a 1-yard plunge in the middle of the third quarter to complete the scoring for the night.

“It was a well-played game on our part,” Wiggins said. “We didn’t have any turnovers and the defense played lights out. We’re excited about this performance.”

Callaway is off next week.
