This letter is directed at LaGrange Police Chief Lou Dekmar. About a week or two ago, I was questioned by a law enforcement officer, not in another town. He just asked me for my name and date of birth, he called it in and they knew my background.
The check came back clear, which I knew it would. A couple of people told me and said they also have been stopped by the police and they felt that they hadn’t done anything wrong. And why do they ask you for your social security number?
Chief Dekmar is this legal and is this justified for your officers to ask for a person’s social security number? Knowing that a lot of identity theft is going on, please answer this question. The public would like to know.
