Carl Ervin Flowers of Griffin passed away Saturday.

Mr. Flowers, a native of LaGrange, was born February 20, 1961 and was the son of Jenniel Flowers and the late Kelly S. Flowers. Carl enjoyed life, loved meeting people and lived life to the fullest. There was never a dull moment when you were in his presence. Carl accepted Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of the Louise United Methodist Church. He served as an usher, Lay Speaker, and assisted with the youth.

He was a 1979 graduate of Troup High School where he was a “Star” basketball player. He attended Southern Union State Jr. College and Birmingham Southern College where he received his B.A. degree in Health and Physical Education. He attended Columbus State University where he completed his Teaching Certification and Troy State University where he received the Masters of Educational Leadership. He also worked with the Troup County Parks and Recreation Center and served as Athletic Director for Conyers-Rockdale Boys and Girls Club. He was currently employed as a teacher and coach for the Upson Lee School System. In January 2011, Carl was the “featured teacher” for Colony Bank of Thomaston.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his loving and caring mother, Jenniel Flowers, LaGrange; sisters: Diane Little, Atlanta; Althea Grange, Martha Bray, Darlene Flowers, all of LaGrange; brothers: Kelly J. Flowers, LaGrange; Larry Flowers, Roswell, GA; Gary (Tiffanie) Flowers, Fayetteville, GA; Willie “Shank” Fannin who became a special brother to the family, LaGrange; aunts: Helen F. Gilmore, Dayton, OH; Elmer Flowers, LaGrange; Tsuneko Flowers, Lawton, OK; uncle: Allen McGhee, Greenville, GA; nine nieces, ten nephews, many other relatives and friends.

The Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, November 17, 2012 at 1:00PM at the New Community Church, 1200 South Davis Road. Rev. Jairo Gay will officiate. Burial will be in Shadowlawn Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Carl Ervin Flowers Scholarship Fund.

He was so much more to me than just my brother-in-law. He always a close friend to me from my perspective. He was the most outwardly sensitive member of his family. He surely was the funniest. When Carl walked into the room, especially at the holiday gatherings, everyone was "on guard" for his humor. When I lost another member of his family who I loved earlier this year, it was Carl I called first and it was Carl who lightened my emotional load. That's how he was. I am now even more alone. I know where you are Bro-in-law, buyI sorely miss you just the same.
