Kane Keith weighed his options, and in the end, he decided Gordon College was the place for him.

Keith is a senior left-handed pitcher for Callaway High, and he’s garnered the attention of college scouts by putting together some amazing seasons for the Cavaliers.

Keith had a chance to play for some four-year schools, but he decided going to a two-year school would be a better option for him, and he’s joining one of the premier junior-college programs.

Last season, Gordon finished fourth in the junior college world series, and the team enters the new season ranked third in the country.

“I really feel like Gordon was the best fit for me,” Keith said. “The connection that I felt with the coaches, I really liked it.”

Keith said he wants to play baseball at a four-year school eventually, preferably on the Division I level, and eventually he hopes to play professional baseball.

He believes playing at Gordon for head coach Travis McClanahan is the best way to achieve those goals.

“The head coach, he does a great job of making sure the guys move on to the next level,” Keith said. “I knew that he would take care of me. I feel like I’ll be well taken care of with m y arm. I believe he’ll make me better. I know he will, and I’m excited to go play at Gordon.”

Two former Cavaliers, Jake Walls and Luke Walls, both played at Gordon, and Keith said they had nothing but positive things to say about their experience there.

“They talked really well of Gordon,” Keith said. “They both enjoyed it.”

Keith now turns his attention to his senior season.

Keith and Nick O’Berry combine to give Callaway a formidable one-two punch on the mound, and they’ll try to help the Cavaliers duplicate or surpass the success they had a year ago when they made it to the state quarterfinals.

Having made his collegiate decision “takes a lot of weight off your shoulders,” Keith said. “Now I can focus on my high-school team and lead us to where we need to be.”
