Members of Arbor Grove Baptist Church are asking for help for two now-bedridden local altruists, Arthelma and Mary “Doll” Cato.

“Arthelma Cato served faithfully as a deacon in the Arbor Grove Baptist Church for 50 years,” said Arbor Grove pastor the Rev. Steven R. Chambers. “Mary Cato took children off the street and made sure that they had clothes to wear and food to eat. She also was the reason many children got the opportunity to be introduced to Jesus Christ by taking them to Sunday school. They are giants in the city of LaGrange.”

Chambers said the couple has helped many people through the years, now they need help. Both have ailments that have caused them to become bedridden and all of their resources are tied up in day-to-day living.

“The house they are living in needs a new roof, and their furnace has gone bad,” Chambers said. “As the winter is approaching, this could turn into a very bad situation.”

Chambers is seeking churches, people, organizations, roofers, heating and air repairmen and anyone else who wants to contribute through donations or time and work to repair the Catos’ home at 501 Colquitt St. Donations may be made to Arbor Grove Baptist Church c/o Cato’s Home Repair at PO Box 2007, LaGrange, GA 30241.

“We are asking that you join in with us in helping these beautiful children of Christ,” Chambers said. “… We thank you in advance for your help.”
