LaGrange City Council will hold a public hearing today on changing four downtown intersections from stop lights to stop signs.

Council will discuss the pros and cons with residents of replacing traffic signals with stop signs at Broome Street at Bull and Main streets, and Haralson Street at Church Street and Ridley Avenue.

Some residents have complained about extended waits at the intersections - up to five minutes at times when traveling on Haralson and Broome streets.

Under the proposal before council, stop signs would be placed on Haralson Street, while Ridley and Church would be travel-through streets. Four-way stops would be placed at the intersections of Broome Street with Bull and Main because of increased pedestrian traffic there.

The city ordinance would allow the traffic signals to remain, blinking a cautionary yellow at Church and Ridley and red at Haralson, while the lights at Main, Bull and Broome would blink red.

Council will convene at 5:30 p.m. in the council chamber at 208 Ridley Ave.
