Early voting for area municipal races and for the special election to fill the House District 129 seat begins Tuesday.
LaGrange and Hogansville residents who wish to vote early may go to the Troup County Government Center at 100 Ridley Ave. between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
West Point residents may go to the tech center on O.G. Skinner Drive to vote. Hours there are 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:30 p.m.
In West Point, newcomer Gloria Ramsey Marshall is running for City Council. The seats currently are held by Joe Downs, Darren Kelley and Judy Wilkinson. Voters will choose three council members to serve the city at-large.
In Hogansville, incumbent Mayor Jimmy Jackson faces opposition from Andy Brubaker and Jim Karvelas. Councilman Bobby Joe Frazier is being challenged by Dixie Quinn and Derek Hay. Councilman Charlie Frank Martin is challenged by Scott Worthy.
In LaGrange, Mayor Jeff Lukken and council members Norma Tucker and Nick Woodson are unopposed. Jim Thornton is unopposed to fill the seat of Tom Gore, who did not seek re-election.
Voters also will fill the District 129 seat in the state House of Representatives for the remaining year in the term of Vance Smith Jr., who gave up the seat to become commissioner of the state Department of Transportation.
Seeking the post are Smith’s son, Kip Smith, 27, of Columbus; Steve Earls, 56, of Pine Mountain; Jerry Luquire, 71, of Columbus; and Earl T. Davis, 75, of Hamilton. All are Republicans.
District 129 encompasses southern Troup County, including West Point, most of Harris County and a small part of Muscogee County.
