The first day of early voting for the Aug. 21 runoff had one hang-up, Chief Registrar Amy Hyatt reported, but otherwise operated smoothly.

One ballot had to be reset Monday after a registrar official punched in a wrong “combo number,” which identifies a voter’s districts. The voter realized that the County Commission District 3 race between Tripp Foster and Ellen Gilmore was not on the ballot, and notified officials.

Hyatt said she voided the incorrect ballot and reset the ballot with the correct information, the voter then verified it was correct and voted. The employee who made the error was “relieved from the position.”

“I then told all the employees to make sure they check and re-check everything,” Hyatt said.

Otherwise, Hyatt said this morning that everything had gone smoothly the first day. A total 378 people voted Monday, a big turnout.

“It was a busy day,” she said.
