An elderly Tennessee man reported missing Monday was found in LaGrange later that day, more than 300 miles away from his home.

According to a sheriff’s report, Troup County Sheriff’s Deputy Dusty Hunt was en route to the area of Highway 29 and Tin Bridge Road at 7:25 p.m. on Monday in reference to an off duty Coweta County deputy that was behind a vehicle that had a reported missing person inside.

The off duty deputy had gotten behind a Ford F-150 and noticed that it had failed to maintain lanes several times and believed it to be an intoxicated driver. He ran the vehicle’s tag number through Coweta dispatch and it came back showing a Billie Woody, an 81 year old man from Morristown, Tenn., reported to be missing. The deputy pulled the truck over.

Hunt arrived on the scene and spoke with Woody, who appeared to be very confused. Hunt said that though the Ford was in park, Woody asked several times “Is my vehicle moving? I think it’s moving.”

Hunt asked Woody if he knew where he was and he replied, “Yeah, Tennessee.” Hunt then told him that he was in LaGrange, Ga and Woody replied, “Where’s that?”

The deputy placed Woody into his patrol vehicle and contacted Woody’s daughter through a number given by 911. Woody’s daughter said that the last time she had seen her father was at 8 a.m. on Monday and he normally goes to the local mall everyday to walk.

Woody was transported to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office to be picked up by his family.
