It’s time to put on some old clothes, roll up your sleeves and grab your trash bags and head out to the annual Great American Cleanup project Saturday sponsored by Keep Troup Beautiful.

Every year participants of all ages work together to beautify neighborhoods all over LaGrange, Hogansville and unincorporated Troup County. Some participate in groups, while others donate their time individually. Last year, more than 300 people did their part to keep Troup County Beautiful and even more are registered this year. The event starts at 9 a.m., and those already registered have their assignments. Those who haven’t registered yet, can do so today and even register Saturday morning at the event on the square.

At around noon, everyone is invited to come meet back at the square to drop off their rubbish and participate in a contest to see who collected the most unusual items. Among the unusual items last year were a dirty diaper, and old floor fan and an antique oil can.

Some pacesetter groups have already completed their Great America Cleanup projects early. The Sierra Club planted flowers at the Troup-LaGrange Recycling Center and LaGrange Academy completed a beautification project at their school. Troup County Girl Scouts are working together to cleanup Heritage Trails in West Point.

So, everyone do your part to beautify Troup County and join the Great American Cleanup project this weekend. While your there, soak up some sun, breathe some fresh air and make some new friends.
