Troup County might see some snow today after all, but don’t break out the sleds — it probably won’t stick.

There’s a chance of snow and rain this afternoon across the northern half of the state as a cold front pushes into Georgia, but no snow accumulation is expected because the ground is too warm.

However, the potential for black ice on bridges and overpasses remains in the forecast late tonight through midmorning Friday as temperatures dip below freezing. The potential for black ice exists as far south as a line from Cordele to Sandersville.

The forecast for Troup County is for temperatures to fall throughout today with winds of 10 to 20 mph and gusts to 30 mph. There’s a 100 percent chance of precipitation today and 20 percent tonight, when the mercury should fall to 30.

Temperatures are expected to warm to the 60s through the weekend, with lows below freezing Friday and Sunday, but in the upper 30s Saturday. Normal extremes for this time of year are 53 and 30.
