The task doesn’t get any easier for the Callaway Cavaliers.

After opening their season with a 13-10 loss to the Troup Tigers at Callaway Stadium, the Cavaliers will make their first road trip of the season Friday night when they visit traditional Class AA power Lovett, which just two years ago played for a state title.

Last year, Callaway bounced back from a season-opening loss with a 27-18 win over Lovett.

“They’re one of the best teams in Class AA,” Callaway head coach Pete Wiggins said. “They do a great job.”

The Cavaliers drove to the Troup 15-yard-line in the closing moments, but a potential tying field goal went awry.

“I feel like we fought hard, and we’ll get better from it,” Wiggins said.

Lovett beat Woodward Academy 23-13 last week.

Troup, meanwhile, will hit the road as it looks to move to 2-0.

Baldwin beat Troup 9-7 at Callaway Stadium last year.

The Braves went on to finish 12-1 and advance to the third round of the playoffs.

Baldwin beat Glenn Hills 36-12 last week.

A lot of things went wrong for the Tigers, but Jeter was proud of the way they “overcame adversity.”

The LaGrange Grangers will look for their first win of the season when they host the Heard County Braves Friday night.

LaGrange fell to Newnan 26-15 in its opener.

This will be Heard County’s first game of the season.

A year ago, LaGrange thumped Heard County 35-6.

The Grangers led 6-0 late in the first half of Friday’s game, but the Cougars scored a pair of touchdowns to take a 13-6 lead at the break.

The Grangers got within one early in the third quarter on an interception return for a score by Chauncey Smith, but Newnan pulled away from there.

“They exposed some areas we have to work on it,” LaGrange head coach Steve Pardue said.

In private-school football this week, the Lafayette Christian School Cougars will put their 2-0 record on the line when they visit Heritage, and Dawson Street will host Holy Spirit Prep in Hogansville.
