The Troup Tigers started out with a win in the Tiger Communications Classic in Auburn, Ala., but they closed their stay in the tournament with a pair of close losses.

In the semifinals on Friday, Troup was upended by host Auburn High 58-55.

Then on Saturday, in the third-place game, Opelika outlasted Troup 63-58.

In Saturday’s game, Opelika was limited to two points in the first period, but it rallied to take a 23-21 lead at the half.

The Tigers led 48-46 through three periods, and the Bulldogs eventually came out on top in a back-and-fourth quarter.

In Friday’s game, the Tigers found themselves down big late, but they scratched their way back within three with 16 seconds left.

The Tigers got the ball back with moments left still down by three, but a 3-pointer went awry, and Auburn escaped with the win. Troup, which won a tournament earlier in the season in Lafayette, Ala., will return to the court on Friday for a game at Callaway.
