Dear Editor:
For the fist time in a number of years, if not in the history of Troup County, we currently have six county commissioners. We have five, not four, representing the various areas of the county plus the chairman who is elected countywide. Seems as though someone jumped the gun by giving the oath of office to Tripp Foster before District 3 Commissioner Ken Smith’s term expires at midnight on December 31.
Since Foster has been given the oath of office and has completed required schooling, he is already a county commissioner.

Editor’s Note: County officials, especially those elected for a fist term are sometimes sworn in prior to the beginning of their terms, however, they don’t have official powers until the beginning of their terms.
