The 2013 Troup County homeless count is an opportunity for everyone in the community to play a part in ending homelessness.
Every two years, in January, a Point-In-Time Enumeration and Street Count is conducted to track the sheltered and unsheltered homeless population.
In the 2011 count, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs showed that Troup County’s unsheltered people has increased since 2009, from 81 to 87.
The information obtained from the count will help to provide a basis for federal, state and local funding to address and analyze the county’s needs that will prevent and end homelessness. It will help identify who and where homeless people are and establish a plan to get them into housing.
Volunteers can chose to be counters, recruiters, office volunteers, or deployment site coordinators. Training for the volunteers will be on Jan. 15, and the counts will be held on Jan. 28-29 and Jan. 30.
