Donations and volunteers are needed for the 19th annual Thanksgiving dinner at Cannon Street Elementary School, sponsored by Jake Sessions’ “Up All Night” show on TV-33.
About 1,200 mostly homebound residents were served in 2008, and 2,000 or more are expected this year. Residents of Lanett and Valley, Ala., may attend too.
Volunteers were asked to show up about 7:30 a.m. Nov. 26, and meals will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“We’ve got three hams and three turkeys right now,” Sessions said, but a lot more will be needed, along with dressing, vegetables, fruit, rolls, desserts, drinks, and plastic forks, spoons and knives.
Canned goods and monetary gifts can be dropped off at TV-33 on Fort Drive, WTRP radio station on New Franklin Road, Lakes-Dunson-Robertson Funeral Home on Hamilton Road, Parmer Brothers Grocery on Vernon Road, and Roots and Branches beauty salon on Hamilton Road.
Checks should be made payable to Up All Night Charities.
“We’re ready to cook hams and turkeys now,” Sessions said.
Bishop Robert Darden, who is helping organize the event, said some people who have volunteered in the past are themselves in need of a Thanksgiving meal this year because of the bad economy.
