Wake up and lift up America

Few people were there that early-morning after President Obama’s re-election; it was about 5:45 when Bubba shuffled into the lobby. Bubba, after getting a cup-o-coffee sat at the “table of intelligence” and said – “well I hope you’re happy – Obama’s back so we’ll face four more years of job losses, more bailouts and borrowed debt, and most of all we’ll have to look at his arrogance” after a short breath he continued – “man he’s just dumb, not even an American.” Not at all surprised with his rant – I leaned on the counter and responded – “Yes I am happy – happy to be an American, to live in the arms of freedom, to know hundreds of millions cared enough to vote. President Obama isn’t dumb Bubba and his past four years have pushed this country out of the path of deep-recession.” Bubba replied – “guess we’ll have to wait four more years until he’s out then we can move ahead.” Sorry Bubba that won’t work – Congress tried that for the past three years. It’s now time for all of us to wake up and lift up America.

I love America – especially her concept of individual freedom – the sacredness of equality, and the absolute acceptance of these words: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men (and woman) are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Without doubt Bubba rests in the arms of partisan-politic, limited education related to truth, and most sadly – his concept of unalienable rights lays centered first in self and waist-deep in intolerant prejudice. Come on Bubba it’s time to take a deep breath and drop the angst of politic – let’s take advantage of the next four years. Instead of relying on Fox, newspapers or CNN to reveal what lies in the path of this administration returning America to the “top” we must face the unbiased truth and personally participate in the process.

We can start by staying in touch with our federal, state and local representatives, research issues including opinions from all sides. Most importantly - all of us must consider the “other” before the “self.” If everyone cared more about those who surround them we would “live” the incredibly majestic intent of our constitution: equality of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Where could we be if we embraced gender equality, if we realized there is only one race and it’s human, if who we love brought us into the arms of peace and compassion instead of bigotry, and if our greatest concern wasn’t wealth and power rather it lay at the feet of our children? Perhaps I ponder too much – for these concepts have been beyond the reach of humankind for thousands of years – none-the-less, these concepts (equality of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness) lay just in front of us – within our reach.

In a few weeks I’ll install my flagpole in the heart of my memorial garden. I will raise the flag of my country and it’ll remain over my home-land throughout the day and night. I’ll honor my flag; its stars representing the union of our land, its white-stripes the purity of our sacred concepts, and its red-stripes exalting the sacrifice of a multitude ensuring she remains held-high. Surrounding this place of honor will be engraved memorial stones – they will read: Dalton & Hunkele, Baker & Worthington, Friends & Family and a special stone dedicated with these words “In memory of those who have sacrificed for equality, liberty and peace”.

Obviously I’m embraced in the arms of emotion so just a final thought: if I pass you without smile, gentle greeting or an expression of my concern – gently stand in front of me and whisper – “I’m here” – or simply “call out my name”. I’ll be there.

Bofran's comment "...go back from where you came from" sounds very racist and reminds me of others who would have said for another ethnic or racial group to return to their continent of where their ancestors originated. For all of you that comment, including myself I feel we need to follow the advice of the late great Dale Carnegie who suggested that when we write a poison pen letter to read it and reread it and wait for 24 hours before sending it. Maybe you don't have to wait that long but at least wait until you are in control of your emotions rather than allowing your emotions to be in control of you. I don't think that Tom has any ill intent with the names he choses. If he used Leroy, there would be those offended by that one unless they were French or John referring to toilets. If you look for negative you will find it. Let it go.

Bofran...

I know I’ve said this before – but let me say it again. Bubba is a mythical character; I use the name in absolute absence of a “person” – Bubba is only a “shadow” of angst. The character Bubba has always been painted as stubborn, slightly uneducated, and above all steeped in personal prejudice.

Billy-Bob however is real character, a man of intelligence, controlled stubbornness and family based ethics – he instills in me the “urge” to research and make judgments based on “fact”.

I do not believe stupidity, uneducated views or any negative-character traits belong to geographic locations - - many steeped in prejudice and bigotry are found in the “north” as they are in the “south”. Many of great intelligence and the ethic of equality are found in the “south” as they are found in the “north”.

Why am I still here - because I’m a damn Yankee.....

To Bofran, I kind of like Bubba and don't consider it offensive. Ever seen "Forrest Gump?" Remember Benjamin Beauford Blue, aka "Bubba" from Biolabatry, Alabama? What about Billy Bob Thornton? Oh and let's throw in some Jimmys out there. Ooops, sorry President Carter. Look, not only you Bofran but others who seem to aways be looking for a fight, with half the world ready to blow the other half away why are you getting so upset about things like that. Just go ahead and say you hate dear old Tom because you wish to label him as some antiquated "y" term and Obama who you are thinking another letter term. I would have thought that by now we would have out-grown all of that nonsense. Some people will find any excuse to hate.

419Jason...

What is most obvious about your response are these two: you dislike the man (Obama) on some deep-personal basis which has nothing to do with his presidency and, perhaps the most obvious – you rely way too much on political-myths and twisted-truths. Whoa – your daddy must be Bubba...

3*Bob...

Read my response to 416Jason above... Then reread your comments and perhaps it is obvious - - you too do not like the man but you like myths...

wordpower - thank you.

Fredsaid – thank you too.

What a load of hooey. Have you watched the video from 2007 of Obama spewing racially charged propaganda about Katrina at the pulpit of his church? And then threw his preacher Rev Wright under the bus after the truth about his church and preacher became public. "God Damn America" was Rev Wright's exact words. I wonder if an america hater like Rev Wright has a US flag in his garden too, like you do? Obama is not a united, he is a divider. He also allowed several thousand guns to be bought by criminals and given to Mexican drug cartels, and exercised executive privilege to stonewall the investigation and protect his AG who was proven to be lying about the program. Then he tried to rewrite history by having everyone around him lie about the Benghazi attack, and that it was based on some stupid YouTube video. When asked point blank about about who knew what, when; he says that will "come out during the investigation". He knows, but won't say. Why does every significant event he is involved with have to have an investigation to dig through the lies. How can you say he kept us out of a deep recession? Do you know that to be true? He said he would cut the deficit in half after his first term, but instead he almost doubled it. He said the same exact thing about cutting the deficit in half in his last campaign. If he didn't keep his promise the first time, why would you believe he would keep it the second time? The CBO says the deficit will grow by 1 trillion dollars per year, in part due to Obamacare. How is this going to cut the deficit? It insults me when he repeats his lies, and expects me to believe them He would have to cut the deficit in half just to get it back to where it was whe he took office? Why is the term "bail out" such a great thing? What is wrong with the free market system. If your product or services suck, and you can't make any money, you deserve to go out of business. The auto industry should have been forced to go through the same bankruptcy process as maller companies would, not some special Obama adminisration run process. There should be no such thing as too big to fail. The guy is a rotten person, with a huge ego problem. I would guess he likes the peace, and love, and hugs attitude type people; because they won't stand up to him, and he will take advantage of them. I am siding with your friend Bubba on this one.

Wow! So much anger! Don't you think a better or more positive attitude is in order? Naw! Guess not. If you hate the man so much, let me suggest you hang out in say, Costa Rica for the next four years until the man's out of office. Complaining accomplishes nothing. The voters or the majority has or have spoken like it or not. President Obama's job is not one I would care to have and if you can do better, at least run for some office and try and change things instead of as they say "curse the darkness rather than lighting a candle." Everyone wants ideas to solve problems but you sound like Romney with his five points but what were they about? Perhaps when you respond to this, which I am sure you will, you might want to read it a few times and then comment with a cool head. Thanks

Why do you constantly talk about Bubba and Billy Bob in all of your letters? It offends me that you seem to think that all Southerners are ignorant Bubbas. If everyone in Georgia is a stupid red neck Bubba, then why are you here? Please feel free to go back to the place that you came from. I am sure that everyone there must be a genius.........

The government can't borrow money and stimulate itself out of a recession. To say so is foolish. Obama is a failure and I agree with you Obama isn't dumb. He's doing exactly what he said he would do. He wants to bring America down to the level of the rest of the world. He wants to punish those who have success and reward those who refuse to put forth that same effort to succeed. He is smart, but evil.
