West Point City Council will hold a retreat in two weeks.

It will be the first retreat since three new members have joined the council after the 2011 municipal election. The last retreat was in Aug. 2009.

City Manager Ed Moon said the retreat will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 7, likely at Callaway Gardens.

The city also is “shooting for” a grand opening/ribbon cutting/open house for the recreation facilities on U.S. 29. It will be the the first look the general public has gotten at the gym and ball fields since renovations began in phase one of the recreation master plan and city redevelopment plan. It also will be the first look since Point University began using the facilities.

The event is tentatively set for Feb. 15, likely in the afternoon.

One of the items on council’s retreat agenda will be how to receive public comments on the next phase of the recreation improvements. A few residents were vocal late last year, complaining that the facilities had been taken over by Point University and not available to residents.

Council said at that time the public will have access to the facilities once renovations are complete.
