An employee of Commotions nightclub on New Franklin Road was sentenced to seven years in prison and five years’ probation for robbing a customer of $2,300.

Gypsy Cantrece Wright, 28, of LaGrange pleaded guilty to robbery charges Tuesday in Troup Superior Court. An armed robbery charge was dismissed.

Co-defendant Jody Marie Nordwall, 22, of LaGrange, a dancer at Commotions, pleaded guilty in July and received 10 years in prison and five years’ probation. Both women were ordered to pay back the money.

The 51-year-old victim from Lamar County had met Nordwall previously at Commotions and invited her to dinner about 1 a.m. Oct. 23, 2008. Nordwall got into his car, and Wright followed in another vehicle.

They drove to Waffle House, but Nordwall said she didn’t want to eat there and asked to go to another restaurant. She directed him to Jones Street Park, where a man who had been lying in the back seat of Wright’s car got out wearing a mask and holding a gun.

He ordered the victim to lie on the ground while he stole $2,300, a cell phone and the car keys. The victim had another cell phone with him and called 911.

“The victim said he heard a warning bell in his head at Waffle House and wanted to leave, and to this day he regrets that he didn’t,” said assistant district attorney Melissa Himes.

Police found Nordwall’s address through her employment, and both women were found at the residence. The male robber was never apprehended.

“We think we know who it is, but there’s insufficient evidence to prosecute,” Himes said.

She said Wright and Nordwall were lovers and Nordwall was going to take the rap by herself, but had a change of heart.

“She said she lied to protect her because she loved her and now she sees that Gypsy doesn’t care about anyone but herself,” Himes said.
