Active Life’s Happy Strikers arrived at Denver’s Colorado Convention Center on Oct. 21 with only one thing on their minds, to do their best at the 2012 National Senior Wii Bowling championship, mission accomplished.

Although Hazel Sellers, one of the team’s best bowlers, was not able to attend the final championship match, with Tommy Buttrum subbing for Sellers, the team felt confident as they left LaGrange for Denver. Active Life’s Director Dan Wooten accompanied team members Evelyn and Grover Kelly, Vestal Thomas and Buttrum to the National Senior League (NSL) 2012 National Senior Wii Bowling championship that was hosted by LeadingAge during their annual meeting and expo. Spirits of Wooten and the Happy Strikers were high as the team held their last practice at the conference center that Monday before the match.

Practice went well, but the next day the Happy Strikers were just nosed out of first place by the UnbeWiiVables from the Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center in Silver Spring, Md.

“The team did well, they fought bravely, but they just came up a bit short,” Wooten said. “They gave their all but faced a tough, tough team,” he said.

Wooten said that the event was well attended and that the Happy Strikers showed excellent sportsmanship throughout the match, and their entire stay in Denver.

The Happy Strikers came back to LaGrange as the second ranked Senior Wii Bowling team in America. Thomas, who has a 300 Wii bowling average, was named the “Bowler of the Year”.

The Happy Strikers, once again, did an excellent job in representing the spirit of LaGrange.
