“It was a great road win for us,” Callaway coach Pete Wiggins said. “Their offense was very good and their quarterback did a great job running it. I was really proud of our kids and our coaching staff for a big win on the road.”
Callaway took the opening kickoff and marched down the field for the score on a drive that took up more than half of the first quarter.
Quarterback Tez Parks tossed a 3-yard touchdown pass to Cortez Leonard that was initially tipped by the Jackson defense.
Callaway’s next touchdown in the first quarter was set up by a 40-yard run by Devon Rosser to the 3-yard line.
After a 5-yard penalty against the Cavs, Kel Kyles took the ball in for an 8-yard touchdown and the score was 14-0.
Callaway’s third score of the game was set up by Parks after the junior signal-caller rambled for a 26-yard keeper all the way to the Jackson 10-yard line.
Rosser took the ball in on a 3-yard plunge with 7:32 in the second quarter, and they Cavaliers led 20-0.
Jackson answered with a touchdown and a two-point conversion to make it a 20-8 game, but Callaway came right back down the field.
Parks’ 18-yard keeper put the ball on the Jackson 12-yard line.
Jackson recovered a fumble at the 1-yard line, though, to thwart the Cavaliers.
The disappointment over the turnover was only temporary, though.
Callaway’s Wilson Lindsey intercepted a long pass at his own 30-yard line, and he rambled through the middle, then down the sideline by his own bench for a 70-yard interception for a touchdown at and a 28-8 lead.
Jackson was moving down the field again when Lindsey came up with another interception to end the threat.
Neither team could generate any scoring in the third quarter, but Jackson was close after returning the second half kickoff to the Callaway 45-yard line.
The Jaguars drove to the Callaway 1-yard line and coughed up the ball.
On the ensuing series, Parks unleashed an aerial to receiver Terry Goodwin, good for 50 yards and a first down on the Jackson 20.
That drive stalled and a fourth-down conversion attempt failed, and Jackson went down and scored to make it a 28-16 game.
Callaway came up with its final score of the game when Lindsey carried the ball for a 3-yard score with 3:22 left, and it was a 34-16 game after the two-point atempt failed.
Jackson went to the air in an attempt to bring the score closer, but a pass attempt ended up in the hands of Callaway defensive back Jet Snellings.
Callaway took over with 1:24 left and ran out the clock.
The Cavaliers will host region foe Chapel Hill on Thursday.
