Caitlyn Kious volunteered at the LaGrange-Troup County Humane Society pet show last year for one of her classes at LaGrange College.

This year, she and her dog, Gracie, a teacup chihuahua, were center stage.

“I adopted her last year,” Kious said.

Only dogs adopted from the LaGrange Animal Shelter or humane society are eligible for pet of the year.

“We just came to be a part of it,” said Caitlyn’s mom, Tammy Keeble. “We never expected this.”

Dozens of dogs, many dressed in their best finery, competed in 13 categories at the annual pet show, which also saw five dogs get adopted from the humane society’s mobile unit.
