The annual “House of Horrors” in Hogansville City Hall will open Oct. 20 and run through Halloween.
The haunted house opens at 7 p.m. on Oct. 20, 26, 27 and Halloween night, with mazes of haunted walkways throughout the former Royal Theater, behind City Hall offices.
Openings are available for “Volunteer Zombies” by calling BJ Boyer at 404-422-8504.
Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under – it’s not recommended for children younger than 6.
The haunted house is an annual fundraiser for the Hogansville Downtown Development Authority and is in its fifth year.
BJ and Allan Boyer, two downtown merchants, do most of the decorating.
Much of the display stays up year-round, but the couple and others who work on the displays collect items for it throughout the year to add, revamp and rearrange for those who come back to see it every year. Preparations begin in August and displays include a demented chef, demented dentist, zombie room, possessed dolls and others.
A “graveyard” behind City Hall, visible from Commerce Street, is taken down after every Halloween.
“It’s a unique way of giving back to the community,” Allan Boyer said of the efforts.
