LaGrange High’s girls’ basketball team defeated host Auburn High 61-47 in the semifinals of the Lady Tiger Holiday Tournament in Auburn, Ala. on Friday.

The win makes the Lady Grangers 10-0 and the only unbeaten team remaining in Troup County after the Granger boys’ team was stopped 64-57 in its tournament by W.D. Mohammed on Friday.

The Lady Grangers will play for the championship at 8:30 p.m. today against a Valley team that finished second in the state last season.

LaGrange jumped out to a huge 25-8 lead in the game only to see that lead evaporate.

The Lady Grangers led by a mere three points with just three minutes remaining, but they pulled away from there.

“We definitely had to overcome some adversity tonight,” Jones said. “We were rolling, then we kind of relaxed and of course, they (Auburn) made some adjustments, but adversity hit, we stumbled a little bit, but we were able to get the job done.”

LaGrange was led in scoring by senior Steara Mitchell, who had 19 points.

Breanna Grant had 15 points, Brittany Tatum scored 12 and KaBrenna Smith had nine.
