Family owned and operated, the Medicine Cabinet is the newest business to join the LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce. The official welcoming and ribbon cutting ceremony took place on site at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Members of LaGrange City Council and the chamber, along with friends and community members attended the event to lend their support and congratulations to the Meeks family. The Meeks are owners and operators of the Mooty Bridge Road establishment, which is part of a regional chain. So far, there are six stores in the chain.
Welcoming remarks at the ceremony were given by LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce President Page Estes, chamber membership committee chair Cliff Meeks, who is not related to the store’s owners, and LaGrange City Council member Bobby Traylor.
The immediate Meeks family greeted their guests and customers and took the time to show individuals around the decorated store. Randy Meeks and his wife, Wanda, along with their two sons, Ryan and Gregg; Ryan’s wife, Isa and their 3-year-old daughter Josephine moved among their guests making sure all had sampled the refreshments that had been provided. Randy Meeks’ brother, Scott, is also one of the owners, but was unable to attend the ceremony.
“We opened this store on the 26th of November,” Randy Meeks, who is also the store’s general manager, said. “As an independent store we can offer friendly, personalized service to our customers. We take all of the insurances that the large chains take, but we offer better service.”
“Our goal is to get you into the store and out as quickly as we can. If you do have to wait for a prescription, we always have complimentary coffee and refreshments, and a comfortable place to sit, while you wait,” Randy Meeks said.
Along one side of the store, the entire wall has one-dollar value items from household to beauty products. The store also carries a selection of popular Melissia and Doug toys. The store is stocked with additional educational toys and a selection of gifts.
The store also offers a “Pharmacy Drive Thru” window. Deana Davenport was taking advantage of this service.
“I like this store because it is convenient from where I live and the people are very nice. I have also been inside the store, and it is just beautiful,” Davenport said. ” I especially like the educational toys that they have in front, I even did some of my Christmas shopping here.”
“Our focus is behind the pharmacy counter. Anything that we do not have in stock we can get for the customer by nine the next morning, Monday through Friday,” Randy Meeks said.
The Meeks family also bought the old Brewster ice cream site and are planning to build their second LaGrange Medicine Cabinet store there. Ryan Meeks has an extensive background in construction and is taking an active part in the planning and building of that store.
“I will be starting Auburn’s pharmaceutical program this January so we do have bids out for the actual construction of the new store, but I will be overseeing the operation,” Ryan Meeks said. “The structure will be a lot larger than the original Brewster shop and it will even have a soda fountain counter.”
The Meeks will be putting out a large sale circular at the end of December that will be offering specials that will start in early January. The store’s grand opening is planned for Jan. 26. From now until the grand opening, customers will receive a raffle ticket for a 26-inch, flat-screen television with every purchase that includes at least one prescription. The winning ticket will be drawn at the store’s grand opening.
