How many people are homeless in Troup County? How are veterans, families, children, and vulnerable populations affected by homelessness?

The Emmaus Women’s Shelter will conduct the bi-annual Point in Time Enumeration and Street Count in Troup County to answer these questions, and shelter representatives are asking for help. They are seeking about 10 volunteers to successfully conduct the count.

The information obtained from the count will help to provide a basis for federal, state and local funding to address and analyze the county’s needs that will prevent and end homelessness, representatives said. It will help identify who and where homeless people are and implement a plan to get them into housing.

The 2013 Point In Time Enumeration and Street Count Dates are:

• Jan. 15 – training from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

• Jan. 28 – count from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

• Jan. 29 – count from 5:30 to 11:30 p.m.

• Jan. 31 – count from 5:30 to 11:30 p.m.

Volunteers can be assigned areas close to their neighborhoods.
