Troup’s Michael Mackfield wrapped up his high-school wrestling career in style.

Mackfield, competing in the Class AAAA state finals over the weekend in Macon, lost his second match, but he didn’t lose again en route to a third-place finish in the 220-pound division.

Callaway’s Brandon Sutton also earned a place on the podium with a fourth-place finish in the 285-pound division in Class AAA.

A handful of other local wrestlers also competed at state, although Mackfield and Sutton were the only ones who placed.

In his first match, Mackfield beat Grayson Entrekin of Chestatee, but he lost to Cedartown’s Jordan Watkins in his second match.

Mackfield rolled from there, beating Marquis Franklin of Veterans and Abraham Prince of Stockbridge to earn the right to wrestle for third place.

In the consolation finals, Mackfield handled Murphy Hagen of Carrollton to wrap up third place.

Sutton got off to a fast start in his bracket with a win over Ken Allen of Elbert County, but he lost 6-5 to Oconee’s Billy Seward in his second match.

Sutton rebounded to beat Ringgold’s Jesse Wade before losing to Woodward Academy’s Richard Wang in the consolation finals.

LaGrange had five wrestlers in the Class AAAA competition, and while four of them won a match, none of them placed.

Hunter Richardson, Logan Pitts, Devonta Williams and Emanuel Mann each finished 1-2, while Kyler Hall fell short in his two matches.

For Troup, Cameron Cato and Adam Love each went 0-2.

Sutton was Callaway’s only wrestler in the Class AAA meet.
