The Troup County Republican Women have announced the opening of the Troup County Republican Party, Romney/Ryan Headquarters.

“This facility will serve as a focal point for all Republican candidates in our community,” a press release said. “This headquarters has been created through the combined efforts of the Strategic Planning Committee of the Troup County Republican Party and the Troup County Republican Women.”

The headquarters will open officially on Saturday, Sept. 22. At 3 p.m., a brief ceremony will be held near Lafayette Square at the plaza adjacent to the Troup County Chamber of Commerce. All interested citizens are encouraged to attend. The high point of the event will be a short speech by Greg Romney Robinson, a cousin and close friend of Mitt Romney, the Republican candidate for president. He will be introduced by Karen Anne Briggs, also a Romney family member and director of the LaGrange Art Museum. The official “ribbon cutting” will be at the headquarters building at 1 Lafayette Square (the old Quiznos building) immediately afterwards.

The headquarters will be a focal point of activities to promote Republican candidates and Republican values over the next two months until Election Day. Information about Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan and local candidates will be available along with Romney/Ryan bumper stickers and yard signs. Voter registration forms also will be available. The facility will be manned by volunteers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Additionally, there will be a weekly theme focusing on such issues as sanctity of life and the economy. The headquarters will provide a location for volunteers to make phone calls and to disseminate information on a variety of important issues. A flat screen television will be installed for the showing of appropriate informational DVDs and the like. This headquarters is intended to be a hub for Republican activity until Election Day.

Those who wish to volunteer to work at the headquarters or to help in other ways may visit with local Republican representatives after the ribbon cutting.
