The artwork of students ranging in age from 5 to 75 opened in an exhibition Saturday at 809 Gallery and will be on display through the end of March.
“This is art from all of our classes,” said gallery owner Chris Hagebak. “Most of it is from general art, so you have pottery, oil paintings and abstracts.”
It’s the third time Hagebak has held a student exhibition at his gallery at 809 Hill St. Three Points Frame Shop, adjacent to the gallery, provided the framing for the art work. About 40 students had art on display.
“We have some adult students who would like to get into the business, and half the battle in that is getting recognized,” Hagebak said.
It’s also a chance for the students – children and adults – to sell their art if they desire.
Spencer Jackson, 7, had copies of his stop-motion animated video for sale.
“I just think it’s fun,” he said.
His mother, Emily Welch, said Spencer has always had the patience to construct things, then videotape it, mostly with Legos.
“He’ll build something, then stop and film it, then build some more, then blow it up,” she said.
Lauren Woody, 8, said her bluebird painting was not for sale.
“I decided I may want to keep it,” she said. She began taking art classes in kindergarten and fashioned the painting after a picture she liked.
