In reference to Mr. Jeff Brown’s article, “A different approach to water levels on West Point Lake”.

I totally agree that the Corps of Engineers needs to be sued along with the Fish and Wildlife Service for allowing the fabricated needs for more water flow to support sturgeon, mussels and agricultural use (needs to show proof) to affect West Point Lake water levels.

On Wednesday, Feb. 6th, my dock had about 3 feet of water. On Saturday, Feb. 9th, it was sitting on the ground. Since when does the corps need to sell power at the expense of Troup County and LaGrange or was power generation the reason for the 3 feet drop. (A loss not only to business but also of property value.)

I worked the L&N/CSX Railroad from about 1968 to 1996 operating trains across the trestle below the Lake Seminole Dam. During this time, I have seen the sturgeon and walked on the mussels. I have seen this river below the dam when you could almost walk across it and then water almost up town near flood stage. In all these years this variance in water level did not affect the sturgeon or mussels. Those who represent us in Atlanta do not care about West Point Lake; now that they have all the water they want. We are being penalized unnecessarily. Do you want a lake or a mud hole?
