Mr. Wilbur Stanton Horton, Jr., age 72, of LaGrange, died on March 8, 2013, at West Georgia Health.

Mr. Horton was born on April 28, 1940, in Augusta, Georgia, to the late Wilbur Stanton Horton, Sr. and Tallie Benton Horton. He graduated high school in Munich, Germany and returned to the states to attend Furman University, receiving a Bachelor’s Degree, as well as proudly serve his country in the United States Army. Among the many careers during his life, he taught school for many years in Mountville, and most recently worked in security for the Milliken Company. In addition to his parents, Mr. Horton was preceded in death by his first wife, Rachel Patton Horton and a sister, Nelle Waddell.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel Pruitt Horton of LaGrange; sons, Scott Horton and his wife Janie of Newnan and Stephen Horton and his wife Michele of LaGrange; step-sons, Joey Thrash and his wife Julie of Greenville and Micheal Thrash and his wife Lena of LaGrange; brother, William Horton and his wife Pat of Greenville, S.C.; sisters, Sabra Stewart of Columbia, S.C. and Mickie Hughes and her husband Doug of Knoxville, Tn.; 8 grandchildren; sister in law, Mary Thrash of Mountville; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, March 11, at 2:00 pm at the Mountville Cemetery with Rev. Kerry Wright officiating. Family will receive friends on Monday beginning at 12:00 pm until 1:30 pm at the Higgins LaGrange Chapel Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.higginslagrangechapel.com.
