Care baskets for breast cancer patients

The Troup County breast cancer support group, Breast Friends for Life, is in need of new or gently used baskets. BFFL makes gift baskets for newly diagnosed breast cancer patients. Baskets need to have a handle. No Christmas or Easter baskets. Baskets may be dropped off with Wanda Lowe at Enoch Callaway Cancer Center, 111 Medical Drive next to West Georgia Health. For more information, contact Lowe at 706-845-3866.

Meals for Circles of Troup County

Circles of Troup County, the county poverty initiative, needs volunteers to prepare the meal for participants, their children and volunteers attending the weekly meetings. Providing a free meal and free childcare each week greatly reduces barriers for single mothers to attend our meetings that help them set goals to become self-sufficient. Meals include a lean meat, three vegetables and fresh fruit for 40 people. No drinks or dessert. The cost of the food can be reimbursed up to $100 a week. For information or to volunteer to prepare a meal, contact Sherri Brown at sbrown@troupco.org or at 706-883-1687.

Donations, repairs sought for couple’s home

Members of Arbor Grove Baptist Church are seeking churches, people, organizations, roofers, heating and air repairmen and anyone else who wants to contribute through donations or time and work to repair the home of Arthelma and Mary “Doll” Cato at 501 Colquitt St. Arthelma Cato served as a deacon in the church for 50 years and Mary Cato took children off the street and made sure that they had clothes to wear and food to eat, said pastor Steven R. Chambers.

“The house they are living in needs a new roof, and their furnace has gone bad,” Chambers said. “As the winter is approaching, this could turn into a very bad situation.”

Donations may be made to Arbor Grove Baptist Church c/o Cato’s Home Repair at PO Box 2007, LaGrange, GA 30241.

Submit items to Matthew Strother at mstrother@lagrangenews.com, at our office at 105 Ashton St. or by fax to 706-884-8712.
