Editor

A teenager was killed and another injured in a Saturday morning wreck on Mooty Bridge Road.

Christopher Mabe, 16, was killed and Timothy Ferguson, also 16, was injured when the 2005 Nissan Maxima they were riding in left the roadway in the 2200 block of Mooty Bridge Road and crashed into several trees at about 5:30 a.m., according to LaGrange Police Sgt. Delton Armstrong. Armstrong said the car was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway. Mabe was a junior varsity football and baseball player at LaGrange High School. Ferguson is also a LaGrange High School student.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Ferguson, walking, but injured. Mabe was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. Ferguson was taken to West Georgia Medical Center where he was treated for superficial injuries. Armstrong said beer cans were found in the vehicle.

Armstrong said the wreck is still under investigation and charges have yet to be filed.
