A man was seriously injured after he was hit by a vehicle on New Franklin Road in front of Burger King this afternoon.

The pedestrian, whose identity was unavailable, was struck by a northbound Chevrolet Cavalier with a Chambers County, Ala., license plate on New Franklin Road. A person at the scene said the victim hit the windshield, which caved in, was propelled over the top of the car and landed partially on the rear windshield, shattering it, and the roof.

There was blood visible on top of the white sedan and the pedestrian’s shoe sat in the road about 35 feet behind where the vehicle had stopped.

LaGrange police and EMS were called at 4:33 p.m. to the wreck, 911 officials said. The victim was taken to Columbus Medical Center by Air Evac helicopter, which landed on private property at Mooty Bridge Road and the rear entrance to Walmart.

LaGrange police and Georgia State Patrol officials were at the scene.
