A few downed trees and power lines, along with scattered power outages, was all the damage Troup County felt from a line of severe storms that swept through the area Wednesday afternoon.

The southeastern tip of the county was under a tornado warning from about 2:45 to 3:15 p.m., along with a severe thunderstorm warning for part of that time. A funnel cloud was reported in the area of Bartley Road, but was never confirmed, Troup County 911 dispatchers said.

The storm warnings did force schools to activate their emergency plans and have students and staff take shelter. The Troup County Government Center also evacuated staff and visitors into hallways and away from windows.

Diverse Power said there were about 1,100 power outages at the height of the storm, mostly in Harris County. The company had erroneously said there were 4,000 without power Wednesday. Everyone had power restored this morning.

The city of LaGrange had only minor, scattered outages.

“We were lucky,” said LaGrange utilities director Patrick Bowie.

The Pine Mountain area appeared to get the brunt of the storm that spawned the warnings for Troup County. A spokeswoman for Callaway Gardens said there was no damage at the facility.

STONE MOUNTAIN - It was one heck of a ride. The Troup Tigers didn’t win a state championship, which was the number one goal for every player and coach on the team. While that goal wasn’t achieved, there’s no question that when the pain of Tuesday’s semifinal loss to Redan wears off, everyone as...
