Funeral held for four crash victims
by Asia Ashley
Staff Writer

Three generations of a family were laid to rest Wednesday afternoon after they were killed in a car crash Friday evening.

The family including Miranda Hurston, 37, Tridarius Harrison, 16, and QuaMauri Harrison,1, died in Friday’s crash. ShaQuavious Harrison, 18, died at the Columbus Medical Center just a day before the funeral, and the family was able to include her in the emotional ceremony.

Hundreds of people were gathered outside of New Community Church awaiting to see their loved ones for the last time.

Remarks from chosen family and friends were short and brief as some struggled to keep back their tears.

A friend of Miranda told everyone to always remember Miranda as a happy person. She said that no one was ever unhappy around Miranda because she was always happy. One of her memories of Miranda is when she and Miranda went to a party, and the party was “dead” and no one was dancing. She said when she and Miranda walked in, Miranda got the party started.

“Always remember Miranda as a happy person,” she said.

A family member told of how he always tried to protect Tridarius.

“Me and my brother would always try to keep Tridarius out of trouble,” said his beloved family member. “We miss him.”

The father of QuaMauri told everyone it is hard loosing a child, but his son had brought many smiles to everyone.

“It’s always hard to lose a child.” said the his father. “I will always remember my son and all the great times we’ve had and all the smiles he’s given all of us. He was loved by everyone and may his soul rest in peace.”

Another friend of the family said she had known them since 2006 and considered them family.

“Randy (Miranda) kind of took me in and Tionna (ShaQuavious) was the best little sister I could have ever had.” said the friend while fighting through tears. She laughed when she told how Tionna would be the first to “have her back” if anyone would mess with her. “I’m gonna miss them like no other and I know everyone else will miss them too.”

She encouraged everyone to pray and keep the other victim, whom is still hospitalized, in their prayers.

“I hope everyone keeps everyone in your prayers and keep Jayvianna in your prayers also, because we’re going to all make it through this.” she concluded.

Jayvianna Hurston was also in the car at the time and is in critical condition at the Atlanta Medical Center. Miranda is the mother of Jayvianna, Tridarius and ShaQuavious. ShaQuavious is the mother of QuaMauri.

They were all in a Pontiac driven by their friend Melanie Lemmon, 23, who was also killed in the crash. Police said that Willie Hooks, 28, was driving northbound in a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass and passing a car in a no-passing zone when he collided with the Pontiac, who was southbound on West Point Road. Hooks also died in the crash.
