Three were arrested Tuesday on drug charges in West Point following a vehicle pursuit by the Georgia State Patrol.
A West Point Police Department press release says that Enrique Torrez Gilliam, 29, of West Point had been listed by WPPD as a person of interest for selling large quantities of marijuana over the years. In November, WPPD, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the sheriff’s office began tracking Gilliam’s actions which included renting various vehicles, frequent trips to Atlanta, and had purchased two pounds of marijuana from him.
On Tuesday, the GSP was involved in a vehicle chase in West Point and parts of Alabama with Gilliam where he was observed throwing large amounts of marijuana from his vehicle, the press release said. He abandoned his vehicle at 2nd Avenue and fled by foot where he was arrested not far from his vehicle. A small amount of money and nearly 16 pounds of marijuana was recovered.
After Gilliam’s arrest, search warrants were obtained for his Arrowhead Drive residence, his rented house on Roper Avenue what investigators say Gilliam used as his “stash house,” and also Gilliam’s rented studio on Skinner Drive.
Ten pounds of marijuana and money was recovered from his “stash house,” which also resulted in the arrest of Timothy Bridges, 29, of West Point, who was residing at the location.
A handgun and ammunition was recovered in Gilliam’s bedroom at the Arrowhead Drive location, two vehicles and other items were recovered from the Skinner Drive address, all believed to have been purchased with drug proceeds.
In continuing the investigation, police and the DEA informed GSP that Michael George Buchanan, unknown name and address, would be transporting marijuana from Atlanta to West Point. GSP conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle driven by Buchanan, resulting in the recovery of 30 pounds of marijuana and a 45 caliber handgun.
Gilliam is charged with two counts of sale of marijuana, trafficking marijuana and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Charges against Bridges and Buchanan are pending.
The investigation is ongoing.
