U.S. Rep. Lynn Westmoreland, R-Grantville, says he’s looking forward to July 11, when the House will vote again to repeal President Barack Obama’s health care reform act.
The move comes after last week’s decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold the plan.
“It’s better to repeal it and start over with health care a little at a time,” Westmoreland said. The vote will be the eighth time Congress has moved to repeal health care.
“There should be more ‘teeth’ in the repeal now, because the court said it’s a tax increase,” he said.
The congressman said the health care plan is going to wind up hurting the middle class. About 77 percent of families making $120,000 or less a year will pay penalties, he said.
Westmoreland was in town Monday to tour Exxon Mobil and Sewon with the LaGrange-Troup County Chamber of Commerce and other leaders.
“We try and visit as many industries as we can,” he said. Employees at the plants want to know how the health care law will affect them and their bosses want to know how federal regulations can be removed to help create jobs and make business easier.
In between tours, Westmoreland stopped at his favorite LaGrange restaurant, Charlie Joseph’s. He discovered it while first campaigning for office eight years ago. On Monday, he had both a chili dog and a slaw dog.
“We had been out running around all day and we were hungry,” he said. His party saw the restaurant downtown.
“The rest is history,” he said.
