‘God doesn’t see color, and I don’t either’
Below the luminous face of 15-year-old Lillian, a simple silver cross lies on her neck. She wears it on the grounds of the Agape orphanage in Kampala, Uganda, where she lives now, her mother dying of AIDS, her father already taken by the disease. More than 7,000 miles away, Katie Firth sits in her kitchen outside LaGrange. She’s married with children. There’s a dog to protect the house and doting parents just down the hill on the family l...

Residents oppose Webb Road development

Former church to become center for community
The former Southwest Baptist Church building on Fourth Avenue may look small from the outside, but that’s pure deception. “We’ve got rooms and rooms,” said the Rev. Aaron McCollough, associational missionary with the Troup Baptist Association. In fact, there are some rooms inside of rooms in the building, where small groups from a Sunday School class could go to pray privately. McCollough eventually will likely find use for them all, as...

Commissioners reject cell tower lease agreement
Troup County Commissioners on Tuesday didn’t approve a new deal for a cell tower lease on Roanoke Road. County Manager Tod Tentler said the new lease would give the county $82,500 for a 99-year lease on the tower. Currently, the tower pays out about $500 per month on a contract Tentler believed was a total 30 years. Tentler said he felt the deal would be a better benefit to the county by getting the money sooner, and because the technolog...
